Mrs. Guedry was one of the few teachers to leave a lifetime impression on my life. As my freshman English teacher, she was able to impart to me 3 valuable life lessons: Life lesson #1: Patience. Normally, English lessons about spelling, grammar, and word origins, etc. were boring. Her approach, skills, and patience toward us were the TRUE lessons I learned. No matter how many papers I turned in with poor spelling and grammar, she patiently (and with a smile on her face) corrected my papers and continually encouraged me to 'spell 'other' withOUT that extra vowel (outher).' She corrected this minor spelling error many, many times, and it was a continual point of contact between us. What a kind, patient teacher she was... Life lesson #2: There's JOY in expectation! One day Mrs. Guedry came into class with a smile on her face and a song on her lips best described as PURE JOY! All class period Mrs. G. talked about a new addition to her (and Jerry's) life. The joy and expectation was contagious with every word. The whole class was enthralled by her happiness. She and Jerry were so happy and knew everything in their lives now revolved around the new child. We received updates every day ... and if the class was getting a boring spelling/word-usage lesson, all we had to do was ask about the new bundle of joy and the grammar lessons stopped as updates began. For the rest of the class-time, we were showered with her joyous expectation. Life lesson #3: Embrace the new! As a newly minted freshman in an unfamiliar setting, I was uncertain how to navigate my new life at WH. Through the year, however, I learned that spelling was important ('other' should be spelled without the extra vowel). I learned a lot of etymological lessons; for example, the word 'accoutrement' originated from a French military term. Mrs. Guedry was patient with me, and with patience, I began to 'embrace the new' with joyous expectation. She modeled this behavior every day when she spoke about the new baby. Thank you, Mrs. Guedry, for affecting my life in ways you could never know, even if I didn't see it until years later. My wish and prayer is that ALL teachers impart joyous lessons into their student's lives. The endless ramifications of Mrs. Guedry's life-lessons continues. This is the gift of the great teachers among us. To the new Joy that came into Jerry and Patti's life, Christy, I wish you could have experienced the pure JOY in her eyes and words as she talked about you before you were even in their lives. From a grateful, joyful student, Thank You, Mrs. Guedry. I hope you are pleased with this composition. John Thomas, Class of '78.

Ms. Patti was a great example of meekness and strength. She had such a kind and gentle spirit. And her smile warmed my heart. You could always count on her for encouragement and a laugh. Jesus was her friend and she let everyone know it. She loved to share his word and tell how good he is. She will be greatly missed. Love you Ms. Patti and sweet family. Love, NayNay
