I knew Michael Goodkin when we were in grammar school in Chicago, Illinois at Gale Grammar School. He had just moved there from I don't know where. He was a great amateur magician and had quirky interests including gambling and card playing at a very young age. After we graduated from grammar school I didn't see him again until we were adults. There was the Gale School Reunion in Chicago, and then we reconnected. I am a film producer having worked for HBO and other cable networks living in Los Angeles and he was writing books. He and our other friends, Betsy Berman and Bonnie Levin would sometimes get together. I saw him a couple of years ago when I was at a conference for Northwestern and we always stayed in touch. I am so sad to lose him as a lifelong friend. He adored his dog Eddie. Michael had an original, creative and brilliant mind. I miss him.
