Marilyn Kay Dodd

1948 ∼ 2024

Marilyn Kay Dodd, 75, of Hardin, Texas, passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 8, 2024, at Magnolia Place in Liberty under the care of Harbor Hospice. She was born on December 9, 1948, in Liberty, Texas to the late Arlice Barton Rawlinson and Willodene Hanchey.

A beloved daughter of her hometown, Marilyn’s life was a testament to love, family, and unwavering faith. As a cherished member of her community, she dedicated herself to nurturing both her family and her friends.

A proud graduate of the Hardin High School Class of 1967, Marilyn carried the spirit of her education throughout her life. Her passion for music shone brightly during her remarkable tenure as a church pianist and organist for 50 years, where she shared her gift with many at the Hardin Methodist and Hardin Baptist churches. Music was not merely a hobby for her; it was a conduit for joy, comfort, and connection.

Marilyn's love for family and friends was profound, infused in everything she did. She took immense pleasure in cooking, often gathering her loved ones around a warm dinner table that she crafted with care. Her culinary creations were infused with love, serving not just to nourish but to bring joy and togetherness.

While the world may feel a little dimmer without Marilyn’s presence, her spirit will continue to resonate in every note she played, every meal she prepared, and every life she touched. She leaves behind a heartwarming legacy of love, faith, and music that will be cherished by all who knew her.

Marilyn is preceded in death by her parents Arlice and Willodene Rawlinson. She is survived by her husband of 57 years Roland Dodd of Hardin; daughter Stephanie and husband Kevin Murphy of Etoile; granddaughter Lindsay Luker and husband Devin of College Station; grandson Dylan Murphy of Lubbock; sisters, Brenda Duclos of Baytown, Melva Blanchard of Livingston and Nedra VanDorn and husband Jim of Hardin; numerous nieces, nephews and other family members.

Serving the family as pallbearers are Kevin Murphy, Dylan Murphy, Devin Luker, Jim VanDorn, Brad Barrett, and Wade Williamson. Honorary pallbearers are Erik VanDorn, and Spencer Duclos.

Condolences

Lynne and Denise Dodd September 11, 2024
The Louis Dodd girls regret very much we will be unable to attend. Our mama and daddy loved Marilyn, and Roland and Stephanie, and cherished visits and correspondence and especially all the pictures of Stephanie as she grew up. My family, especially my 40-year-old son will only eat banana pudding made from Marilyn's recipe. Oh my, it is so good and when she made it, it was extra special because of the love she poured into it for the enjoyment of others. We are thinking of you Roland and Stephanie and your beautiful family. Marilyn and Carolyn are together in Christ. With love, Lynne and Denise.
