My aunt passed away just two days ago. I praise God that her suffering is at an end and I mourn that this earth will not be the same without her. I can’t imagine the void her passing leaves for her husband, her children, grand children and great grandchild. I can’t make the trip home and I am struggling with this because I want to be there to celebrate her life with my family. Although, because of the distance life has created, it is strange to think myself part of the family. As we don’t know each other well. It has been a lifetime of moves and miles between us. But the memories of her - of each one of them - is home to me. They are that place that anchored my childhood. Hot humid summers of fun and family and laughter and squabbling and such and Aunt Linda was an integral part of that. In my memory, she was always gentle and beautiful, and remote. She had a sweet smile and a proper way about her at all times. She loved quietly and thoroughly. I remember visiting as a young adult and talking to my uncle – realizing I had never been in their room – it always seemed like their private sanctuary. He was surprised but welcomed me back and showed me what had been hidden from me as a child. The walls were full! Completely covered by pictures of the ones she loved. It was such a sweet window into the heart of my aunt and my uncle. Her love and life is written in the ones she loved! Last summer we went to visit -- It had been 18 years since I had last seen her. Although her illness had taken its toll - she was, as I remembered… gentle, beautiful and remote. And, oh, my Uncle Bill, what care he took of her! She had only met one of my children (Isaac) until last summer. I thank God that I was able to spend time with her and that Luke, Gabby & Caleb were all able to meet a woman who influenced my life quietly and beautifully. I am so sad that I cannot be there to celebrate her life with all of you. But, please know how grateful I am that God allowed her to be part of my life. I love each of you so very much. It surprises me how much – how deep that well is. God is so generous to have allowed my life to intersect with each of you!

I took typing under Mrs. Vanderburg my junior year in 1978-79. She was very patient and her smile and pleasant encouraging attitude was what I needed to help me through my class. I will always remember her as a kind person and a true lady in every way.
