Kathy Jane Taylor

1962 ∼ 2026

Kathy Jane Taylor, 63, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, January 8, 2026. She was born on November 1, 1962, in Houston, Texas. She was adopted & raised by the most amazing parents, Fred and Jean Heidner.

Kathy attended Westchester High School, with her fondest memories of being on a swim team. She met the love of her life, Steven Taylor on October 10, 1981, happily married on December 3, 1983. Together they had two children, Katy Jane and Cody Wayne, followed by three amazing grandchildren, Kylee Jane, Braylen Wayne, Kase Liam, and fur pups Flossie and Knoxli. She traversed a diverse path throughout her life, beginning her journey at the esteemed Rainbow Cafe as a waitress. This was merely the first chapter of a varied career that spanned volunteering at Hardin Independent School District, and later, medical billing and coding—until she found her heart as a devoted stay-at-home grandma and wife.

Kathy’s vivacious spirit was unmistakably marked by her dedication not only to her family but also to her friendships, each uniquely cherished. Known for her headstrong demeanor and tenacious will, she fought valiantly against cancer for several years—a testament to her indomitable spirit. Kathy’s personality was characterized by her selfless generosity, often spreading joy through her annual Christmas donations to employees in need, ensuring they were supported during the holidays. Her laughter echoed through gatherings with her long-time friends, from lively card games by the fire to day-long shopping excursions; truly, there was never a dull moment in her company.

Kathy was a beacon of warmth, making certain that those around her never left a meal feeling shortchanged, always ensuring nothing remained on the table. She embodied the simple pleasures of life, relishing in hobbies such as fishing, gardening, spending time at her favorite place, the beach, searching for beach glass, and her culinary passion, with crawfish etouffee being a celebrated highlight among family favorites. The Thanksgiving tradition she initiated, cooking duck for her beloved family, will forever remain etched in their hearts.

Among her most cherished roles in this life were those of a mother and grandmother. Kathy leaves behind her adoring husband, Steven Taylor, daughters Katy Jane Taylor and Flossie Lou Taylor, son Cody Wayne Taylor, and grandchildren Kylee Jane, Braylen Wayne, Kase Liam, and Knoxli Kate, who were her everything. The bonds she nurtured with her family were profound, each relationship uniquely impactful. Her memory will surely be honored by her mother-in-law, Peggy Ivy; sister-in-law, Beth Lyons; sister-in-law Sandy Allen and her husband Ray; uncle Rick Heidner and his wife Diane; and cousin Donald Wong and his wife Debora.

Kathy is preceded in death by her parents, Fred Heidner, and Jean Garmany Heidner; stepfather Roger Bonney; stepsister Charlotte Morris and her husband Bruce; grandmother Bess Bledsoe; great-grandmother Ruby Locke; sister-in-law Judy Taylor; and brother-in-law Donnie Lyons.

Serving as pallbearers are Steven Taylor, Cody Taylor, Braylen Taylor, Kase Taylor, Jamaica Gamboa, and Noah Ortiz. Honorary pallbearers are Stephen Stinnett, Norris Rhodes, and Larry Wishert.

The world is a quieter place without Kathy Jane Taylor, whose gentle and resilient presence enriched the lives of many. A visitation will be held in her honor at Hardin Baptist Church on Sunday, January 18, 2026, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM, followed by a solemn funeral service on Monday, January 19, 2026, at 10:00 AM, officiated by Pastor Tony Hines. Interment to follow at Hardin Chapel Cemetery.

Let us cherish her memory, reflecting on the myriad ways she touched our lives, reminding us all to emulate her spirit of kindness, generosity, and resilience.

You have been my closest friend for 15 years Kathy Taylor. I will miss you everyday until I see you again. How many years we have sat at this spot playing cards and listening to tunes as you used to say. I was so blessed to have you in my world. Thank you for loving me and being my "Betsie" for all these years. You were loyal and generous and a rare kind of girl. I love you Kit Kat and will catch up with you later.

Oh my precious Kathy how I will miss that contagious laugh you had. When Dwight and I moved to Liberty, (36+ yrs ago) we only knew 2 people, pawpaw and mawmaw, but soon to have the best friends ever with a lil girl to welcome us every day. It was like yesterday our 2 kids running around Pumpelly's and us trying to make sure they didn't knock any tires down :). All the fishing we did at ya'lls house. This is where our son learned to fish at age 1. Such good memories with You and Steve! No more hurting my lady, Hope you are dancing and making everyone laugh as you always made me laugh. Rest in peace my friend.

One of the first people I met whenever we first moved to Liberty. I didn't realize until years later that we both attended high school in Houston close to each other. Kathy was such a kind soul and will be sorely missed by all who were fortunate enough to have had their lives touched by her generosity. Until we meet again...I wish you peace.
