Joyce Bell Templeton

Joyce Bell Templeton, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and cherished friend, passed away peacefully on April 12, 2026, in Baytown, Texas, surrounded by her loving family. Born on November 28, 1938, in the serene surroundings of Pensacola Beach, Florida, Joyce graced the world with kindness and warmth that touched the lives of everyone she encountered.

Joyce dedicated much of her life to serving others, working as an administrative office personal secretary with Houston Independent School District. In her role, she was known for her unwavering support and open door, welcoming all with a generous heart and a ready smile. Her career reflected the deep care she carried within—a care that extended far beyond her workplace into the hands of family and friends alike.

Family was the radiant light of Joyce’s life. She treasured her sons, Michael Templeton, Sr. and his wife LaVonna, and Tracy Templeton and his wife Robin. She delighted in watching her grandchildren pursue their paths—Katie Worthy and husband Robert; Michael Templeton, Jr. and wife Tiffany; Mark Templeton and wife Marissa; Joey Green and husband Shane; Cody Templeton and wife Christina; Seth Templeton and wife Karah, Olyvia Templeton, and Vyctoria Moore and husband Colton. Her legacy further blossomed through 20 great-grandchildren whose lives are forever enriched by her love. Past generations hold cherished memories: Joyce was preceded in death by her father, George W. Scoggins; mother, Mary Simmons Scoggins; husbands, Kenneth Ray Templeton and Ed Collins; daughter, Pam Templeton; brothers, Frank Norred and George Scoggins, Jr.; and sister, Catherine Thibodeaux. Surviving siblings include her brother, Conroy Scoggins and wife Jan, and sister, Patricia Deasy.

Joyce’s spirit was woven through the simple joys that brought happiness to those around her. She was a passionate home cook who thoroughly enjoyed feeding anyone who came through her door, a door that was always open, emblematic of her generous nature. An avid bingo player, she looked forward to her bingo trips with friends, where laughter and bond were plentiful. Sewing was another of her great delights, especially crafting pillows designed to fit perfectly on recliners, an act reflecting the thoughtful care she devoted to the comfort of children and family members. Each stitch spoke to her loving nature and her desire to offer warmth, both literally and figuratively.

One of Joyce’s fondest traditions was her yearly family beach trips to Pensacola, Florida, a return to the place where her story began. Those gatherings were more than holidays; they were celebrations of the enduring bond she shared with those she loved. Her memory will forever be woven into the waves, sand, and sun of those cherished visits.

Joyce Bell Templeton’s life was a testament to love, generosity, and gentle strength. She leaves behind a family and community deeply touched by her presence and profoundly grateful for the gift of her unwavering love. Her legacy is carried in every open door, every lovingly prepared meal, every laughter-filled bingo night, and every perfect little pillow that soothed and comforted. The warmth of her heart and the brilliance of her spirit will linger forever in the lives she so tenderly embraced.

Joyce was always ready to help in anyway she could. Babysat, give advice, tell you how things was gonna be. I can not express how much I love this woman. She nicknamed me the blue flash one year because she said I was driving to fast everyone she saw me. I reminded her at that time in our lives I was usually doing errors for her or my mom. And they was usually in a hurry for me to get it done. I truly loved her
