Hubert Allen Laird

Hubert Allen Laird, a man whose life was a tapestry of adventure, love, and unwavering dedication to family, passed away peacefully on April 17, 2026, in Beaumont, Texas. Born on September 1, 1940, in Little Rock, Texas small town by Kountze, Texas, Hubert lived a life marked by hard work and boundless passion for the outdoors.

Hubert's early years were shaped by his service as a cook in the United States Air Force, a role that reflected his steadfast commitment and work ethic. Following his military service, he embraced the challenges and rewards of being self-employed, wearing many hats as a true jack of all trades. His passion for service extended into public office, where he served as a county commissioner for Hinsdale County, Colorado. Here, he found a place in his heart, loving the community and the rugged landscape that became a backdrop for some of his proudest accomplishments — moving houses for the people in Colorado, a testament to his hands-on approach and dedication.

Family was the center of Hubert's life. He took immense pride in raising his daughters—Lisa Donovan, Wendy Laird, Teria VanMatre (and her husband LeRoy), Skylar Painter and Sidney Wagner —as sons he never had, teaching them to work alongside him with strength and resilience. He instilled in them the values of hard work and determination, preparing them not only for the tasks of the day but for life's greater lessons. With his beloved wife of 66 years, Valerie Laird, by his side, Hubert nurtured a tight-knit and loving family. Their home was filled with countless grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren who carry forward his legacy of love and perseverance. Beyond this close circle, Hubert’s life touched a wide network of nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends who will remember him fondly.

Hubert’s adventurous spirit fueled his many hobbies. A passionate hunter, he was often found tracking bears or pursuing game of any kind, embodying the rugged soul of a true outdoorsman. His love for fishing was equally profound; whether at Crystal Beach or on the serene waters of Sam Rayburn Lake, Hubert found peace and joy casting lines and sharing moments with loved ones. His enthusiasm for race cars added another thrilling dimension to his life—many who frequented local tracks knew him as a fierce competitor behind the wheel of his own race car, a symbol of his unyielding spirit and zest for life.

He is predeceased by his parents, James W. Laird and Ethel Davis; brothers, Clyde Laird and Robert Wayne Laird; and sister, Ethel Juanita Justice. The memories of these cherished family members live on in the hearts of those who knew Hubert.

Hubert Allen Laird’s legacy is one of devotion—to family, to community, and to the simple joys of a life fully lived. His adventurous heart and loving nature leave an indelible mark on all fortunate enough to have known him. Though he has moved on from this world, his spirit remains woven deeply within the lives he touched, a beacon of strength, love, and the enduring power of family.
