Gilbert and Mary were some of the first people I met when I moved to Batson. I was a city girl and Batson was quite a leap for this girl. I have fond memories of visiting them in the small cabin they had before they built their home. We were neighbors and we knew we could count on them if we ever needed them. Gilbert was a good man who adapted much easier to country life than I. My fondest memory of him was seeing him on his blue tractor, day after day. He was a devoted rancher, farmer, Christian, husband, father and friend. He did everything with a magnificent gusto for life. His absence leave a huge hole on Largent Rd. Gilbert came to work for me iat Communications Engineering Co..in 1967 in New Orleans. Gilbert was by far my best technician. When I went to work for Amoco International I tried to get Gilbert to come to work for Amoco but my offices were in Chicago but Mary have a high level job with Ford Motor Co. with good benefits and didn't want to leave her job. Later when Amoco moved the International division to Houston Mary had retired and Gilbert was running his own business. After much effort on my part I finally convinced Gilbert to come to work for me in Amoco. Although the money and benefits were very good, I don't think Mary was too enchanted with Gilbert having to, as Gilbert had described to her 'travel a little'. Our first trip after Gilbert had been with Amoco about a week, was to Manila in the Phillipines. I suspect when Mary learned Gilbert's iidea of'Travel a Liile' meant overseas travel she was even less enchanted. When we finished in the Phillipines we were sent to Gabon, West Africa. We had to stop in Madrid, Spain to get a visa for Gabon. How I remember Gilbert try to explain to Mary on the telephone that we were in Spain waiting to get a visa to go to Gabon, West Africa. I think she was having a little trouble bbelieving what she was hearing. After a few trips together I was able to send Gilbert anywhere in the world and nevr had a worry about how he would handle his assignment. I could go on forever about our adventures and incidents in many contries but only people who have worked overseas in the 'Oil Patch' would believe them. I have been retired over twenty years and seen Gilbert several tims and always thought of himas a 'perennial'. Since Mary's daughter called me this afternoon I have been virtually speechles. It will be a day or two beforew it really hits me. We were close friends for forty-five years. Like everyone else he knew, I will miss him... John M. (Jack) Temple

Gilbert was an active member of the Galveston Scottish Rite Masons. I never saw him that he did not have a big, warm smile on his face. Rest in peace, brother. Jeff Modzelewski Galveston, Texas

I met Mr. Hinze when I worked at Maci Feed in Hardin. One morning I said 'How are you today Mr. Hinze?' He answered with a big smile 'Good as a man can do this side of Glory!' It was a pleasure to know him. My condolences to his Family.
