I met Gary when I came to work at NTS in December of 2015. I spent a couple of days at his branch in Houston to see how his operation ran. I was a bit nervous about changing companies and Gary took the time to talk to me and tell me all about NTS and gave me a 'little history lesson' on the shoring business in Texas. At the end of that conversation, my nerves had calmed and I felt at home with my new company. Over the last two years I developed a ton of respect for Gary Martin and the things he had accomplished. I have been in our business for 24 years and I must say, the very limited time that I spent with Gary were some of the most influential moments of those years. He made a lasting impact on me personally and professionally and for that I will forever be grateful. My deepest condolences to Matt and the entire Martin family.

Very sorry to hear about the passing of Gary Martin . Our prayers go out to his wife Joan and all the Martin family. I’ve known Gary almost 30 years both in personal life and through many years in Working with him. Gary was a straight up guy he told you what he thought and didn’t sugar coat it. He thought a great deal of his wife and kids . Gary worked as hard as he played whether fishing or cooking. I truly will miss him. we often called each other to reminisce About our good times in the younger years, when we shared a few cold adult beverages while solving the shoring problems of our industry. We often told each other how lucky we were to have 2 very understanding wives. Peace be with you Gary. Deepest sympathy from Your buddy Jerry Wagner.

Matt, Patrick, my heart filled with prayers go out to you both and to Garys wife and Daughter and the entire family. I just never had the opportunity to meet any of the rest of the family. The loss of a love one is such an awful thing. The pain is sometimes more that we think we can bare. The first time I met Gary Martin, was about a month after I started working at NTS, and he was in the Corporate office for other matters, and stopped in our area to introduce himself. He scared me, he had this look on his face that I thought oh boy do i have my job cut out for me. Not knowing that, that was not who Gary was, he was tough and looked tough, but had a big heart. Once I had worked with him for awhile i so realized what a caring and big hearted man he was. My prayers to each and everyone that ever crossed Gary's Path...as he will always be remembered. Prayers for the family.

As his lake family, we were shocked and saddened to hear that we had lost Gary. He was a great family man and a wonderful friend. A few thoughts come to mind when we think of Gary… First and foremost was his love of his family. His soulmate and confidant, the love of his life, his beautiful bride, completed him. He and Joanie were truly “one”. He tenderly cared for her and her for him. They were a delight to spend time with and always found something to laugh about. They were our Friday night Mexican food buddies and Gary will be sorely missed. While Gary was a very successful business man and positively impacted many lives through his life’s work, to understand Gary meant that you had to understand that while he worked hard, he did it all for the benefit of his family. He took his calling to provide for his family very seriously. He was extraordinarily proud of all his children’s accomplishments. He drew no distinction between his children and their spouses. He viewed them as one – a family unit that was an extension of he and Joanie. He was so very proud of his family. This was his favorite topic of conversation. As it should be, he viewed his grandchildren as the best of the best and took great delight is sharing their latest adventures. When they came to visit at the lake, he would sit for hours and watch them play. He made sure they had plenty of lake toys to play with and was so very proud as they grew to the point where they could drive the golf cart or the boat or help with the yard work. We could sit on our porches and hear him laugh and interact with his family. We will miss that. He had a wicked sense of humor. He loved to decorate with funny signs that poked fun at him or Joanie. Often, Joanie would just shake her head at her husband’s antics. He made my husband a combination golf club and weed eater. Only Gary could dream up this stuff! This is what made it such great fun to be around him. He would tell the most outrageous stories and laugh so hard he would almost fall off his chair! He got a lot of pleasure when his kids would poke fun at each other and often egged them on. Gary was one of the most generous people we know. If he was cooking out, he was going to fix enough for all of us. We can only hope Matt has mastered the art of barbequing ribs. No one could grill and barbeque like Matt and Gary. If he went on a trip overseas, he always remembered those of us at the lake and often brought us gifts back. If the lake community needed something, he was there to provide it. He seemed to always think of others. His generosity of spirit made a huge impression on those around him. He was one of a kind. We will be there for Joanie and will hopefully be able to ease a bit of the devastation and loss that she is experiencing. We will be there for his children and grandchildren and will support them in whatever way we can. We will grieve the loss of this man who was larger than life. We will miss Gary. His lake family - Scott, Elaine, Hilde, and Jacque

Many of the employees of National Trench Safety had the privilege of sharing life's journey with Gary. Though a member of NTS at this time, my memory of Gary goes back a few years, and comes from a different vantage point than others. On several occasions, I had the opportunity to interface with Gary as a vendor and sometimes as a competitor. I remember those moments because of the demeanor Gary exhibited towards me at those times. He always seemed to be in command of his responsibilities and those under him always exhibited a confidence and presence that only comes from the leadership that Gary provided his people. I, however, had not earned a moment of his time, nor did I have much to offer. But, regardless, Gary was respectful, helpful though he did not need to extend any kindness to me, and friendly. I have been with literally hundreds of branch managers, but those few moments with Gary, impressed me then and now, on reflecting back to this huge lost to NTS as well as to family and friends, of a unique leader, confident of his skills, his contribution to those around him, his God, and his country. A leader, more than a branch manager. A resource, more than a decision maker, A friend, more than just an acquaintance. Our prayers are with his dear wife, the family, and friends. Truly...a great loss. Heaven's gain. Wendell
