Evie Lee ('Dottie') Jones died on April 8, 2014 at age 94. She was born at Call, TX in 1919 to George Washington Edgar and Evie Line Roebuck Edgar . Her family moved to Daisetta in the oil boom days and Dottie lived in the Daisetta area since she was two years old. She was preceded in death by her parents and by three husbands: Walter Odos Hughes, Sr. (divorced in 1939, died 1969), Jesse L. Speed (died 1967) and Alvin ('Dood') Jones (died 1996). She was also preceded in death by one son: George Mitchell Hughes, Sr. (died 1995). She is survived by four children: Walter O. ('Buster') Hughes, Jr. (wife Billie Jean) of Batson, Norma Faye H. Hickman (husband Lloyd) of Kilgore, Linda Jan S. Pack (husband Dean) of Mandeville, LA and Edgar L. ('Bud') Speed of Raywood. She is also survived by eleven grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren, eleven great-great-grandchildren and numerous other relatives.
Her family will receive friends at Faith & Family Funeral Services on Saturday April 12, 2014 from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m., with the service of remembrance starting at 2:00 p.m. , officiated by Reverend Leslie Gains. Interment will follow at Guedry Cemetery in Batson. A reception will be held at the Central Baptist Church in Daisetta following the interment.
