Evelyn Christene Melinder

Evelyn Christene Melinder, born on April 20, 1942, in Daisetta, Texas, passed away peacefully on April 18, 2025, in Conroe, Texas. A cherished member of her community, she dedicated over 40 years of her life to teaching in various schools throughout Liberty and Hardin counties, shaping the minds of countless students.

Evelyn was known for her deep devotion to her family, friends, and faith. Her love for Jesus was at the core of her being, guiding her actions and interactions. She found immense joy in nurturing her relationships with family, always attentive to her many nieces and nephews, while cherishing the moments spent admiring pictures of her great nieces, great-nephews and great great-niece.

Her interests outside of teaching included reading her Bible, enjoying religious and comedy shows, cooking, and staying informed about current events. Evelyn found solace sitting in her rocking chair, savoring the simple pleasures of life, which included a fondness for clothes shopping and pampering herself with hair and nail care. The buttercup was her favorite flower, embodying her vibrant spirit. A highlight of her life was an exhilarating flight in a B-17 bomber, which she experienced for her 75th birthday—a memory she truly treasured.

Evelyn is survived by her son, Steve Melinder; sisters Glenda Jean Bass, Gail Lettia Shivers, and Mamie Lavelle Smith; brother Warren Gray Ford; numerous nieces and nephews; and her beloved cats, Oreo and Amiga. She was preceded in death by her parents, Buster Walter Phillips and Florence Cornelia Cooper.

A memorial service to honor her life will be held on May 3, 2025, at the First Baptist Church of Hull, located at 7207 FM 834, Hull, Texas 77564. Friends and family are welcome to gather from 10:30 AM to 11:30 AM to celebrate the profound impact Evelyn made on the lives of those around her.

Evelyn Christene Melinder will be sorely missed by all who knew her, as she was a source of love and light in their lives.

Now to the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only God, be honor and glory for ever and ever. Amen.

Ms. Evelyn was a great cook and she loved studying her Bible. She was fascinated by Jewish history and was very knowledgeable. She was soft spoken and had a great sense of humor. She had an infectious laugh. She was like a mother figure and personable. Talking to her was like you have known her for years. She is very missed. Rest in your purpose, Ma’am.

My childhood memories of my best friend involves spending a lot of time at each others home doing school studies, and then let the weekend begin... We would get in my black and white 56 ford car and drive to the big town of Liberty to the famous Milentz Drive-In then after the movie we would go to Walkers Cafe an had great burgers and coke. We would ride all over Liberty and back to Daisetta while talking about our week and the future we dreamed of. Evelyn stated good thing this old car cant talk. lol She was joy to be around and will be truly missed. Love you my dear friend!
