I met Gene through knowing his wife Doris from the time I was a little girl attending the old church across the street before Roadside Baptist was built. I came to know Gene, Doris and their family as I grew up around them. My mother(Liz (Wilson) Marcontell and Doris were the best of friends for years, up until my mother's change of address to Heaven in. January 2015. I hadn't seen Gene and Doris since right after momma's funeral but they were there every step of the way during the loss and the next several weeks after. I will cherish forever the last gift they gave me....the children's table from the nursery that was built in the 1940s. I sat a many a Sunday at that table and listened to my aunt Rozelle teach Sunday School. The same day they gave the table to me they allowed me to play the piano my granny used to play every Sunday (Esther Marcontell). The memories that flooded my soul that day were truly precious. Heaven is so much sweet with my momma, Doris, Gene, mutual family friend James Flowers, my uncle Roy, my Papa Alfred & my granny ❤️ I am so excited to know they'll be waiting for me just inside the Eastern gate!!!! I love you guys and am praying for you all. Thank you Melba for keeping me posted. Rest at Jesus' feet Gene. You will be missed ❤️❤️

So sad to hear of Gene's passing. When Alfred Marcontel was pastor there, I was Alfred's associate and came to know Gene while a member. He took over the mantle and was faithful to Roadside Memorial and the community. He will be missed, but has now reaped his reward. Blessings and prayers to the family. Robert Coward

I knew Gene from childhood. I was about 6 when he came to Saratoga. He always had a smile on his face and a fierce love for his Lord. You'll be missed Gene. Tell everyone hello.

I met he and his wife by accident or so it seemed. My car broke down while in route to Houston. His wife came to my aid, provided cool water and a cell phone while I waited for roadside assistance. God bless them both.
