Chester Fontenot

Chester Fontenot 81 of Raywood, TX went to be with the Lord on October 31st, 2022, while at home with his loving wife and children by his side. He loved his family and enjoyed family gatherings; he believed that this combined with prayer were the key ingredients for keeping families together.

Chester was born to Jack Fontenot and Alma Gobert on January 10, 1941. He went to Woodson High School in Raywood, TX. He married Irma on November 5, 1960. After marriage the family grew to five with the births of John Wade, Cathy, and Kirk.

After high school he began his career as an entrepreneur, he was a general contractor and owned a gas station for several years. He was a man of many talents and easily self-taught himself new skills. He loved farming, he raised animals and butchered them himself. He was passionate about helping young men find their purpose in life and employed many throughout his career.

After retirement he began making homemade sausage and was known by many as the “Sausage Man.” What started as a simple hobby soon turned into a small business that he was very proud of.

He was an active member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. He spent time volunteering for various ministries and dedicated his work to the Lord and The Blessed Virgin Mary.

He is preceded in death by his parents Jack Fontenot and Alma Gobert; his son John Wade Fontenot; his brothers Alvin Fontenot, Albert Fontenot, Hamilton Fontenot, Raymond Fontenot; his sisters, Lillie Bell Gradney, Allie Fontenot, Lonia Fontenot, And Louella Lemond.
