Charles “Lil Charlie” Cherry Jr., a man of many talents, a devoted father and grandfather, and a friend to many, passed away peacefully on September 24, 2026, in Galveston, Texas. He was born on August 22, 1980, in Beaumont, Texas.
Charlie was truly a “jack of all trades.” He had a gift for fixing just about anything and often jokingly referred to himself as a “professional redneck.” He loved fishing, working with his hands, and staying busy. Charlie was rarely sitting still and could always find something that needed to be done. He also had an artistic side and found joy in painting.
Charlie spent much of his professional life working on the water before transitioning to the oilfield. No matter what work he was doing, he was someone who could be counted on to figure things out and lend a helping hand.
Above all else, Charlie was a family man. He treasured Sunday dinners, playing card games and the time spent surrounded by the people he loved. He was always willing to help others and was the kind of person who would give the shirt off his back. Charlie showed up for the people in his life—whether they needed a helping hand, a listening ear, or simply someone they could count on.
Charlie is survived by his wife of 25 years Jennifer Cherry; his parents, Charles Cherry and Philis Bagwell Cherry; his daughters, Emily Cherry and Alexia Cherry; his son, Charles W. Cherry, and his spouse, Jaedyn; and his beloved grandchildren, O’Leta Cherry, Dalilah, Violett and Zaire. He is also survived by his sister, Tammy Morgan, and his nephew, Patrick Morgan.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Hal and Virgie Bagwell, and his grandmother, Florence Cherry.
Charlie will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him. His willingness to help, his hardworking spirit, his sense of humor, and the love he had for his family will remain a lasting part of his memory.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, September 30, 2026, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Faith and Family Funeral Services in Batson, Texas.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, October 1, 2026, at Lighthouse Church in Moss Hill, Texas, with Pastor Alan Owens conducting the service at 1:00 pm. Burial will follow to Moss Hill cemetery.
Honoring Charlie as Pallbearers will be Bubba Cherry, Patrick Morgan, Shawn Dryden, William Dill, Joey McGinnis, Lil Toby McGinnis, Ronnie Preston, Brian Goins, and Don Kudro with Terry Duff, John Paul Duff, and Cody Duff serving as Honorary Pallbearers.
Though he may no longer be here to lend a hand, share a Sunday dinner, cast a fishing line, or fix what needs fixing, Charlie’s love and memory will live on through the family and friends he loved so dearly.
