I’ve never met anyone in my life like Ben. A guy that could cook gourmet meals or make a meal out of day-old cornbread and questionable buttermilk. A guy who could hold his own in any intellectual, philosophical, or technical conversation, and also burp the alphabet. The places he went & things he did were larger than life, but was the most down-to-earth dude I’ve known. Rest in peace Buddy! Rob McCain

Ben and I had quite a few memorable experiences. I think he would agree that our best one together began on October 8th, 2017. We were having lunch at a local spot in Beaumont, watching the Astros lose game 3 of the ALDS. In the 7th inning, one of us, I don’t remember who but probably him, sparked the question, “Wanna go to Boston and watch the Stros clinch the division series tomorrow?”. We immediately closed our tabs and headed to the airport. Jeremy drove, Ben bought the plane flights, I bought the game tickets, and made sure the current game didn’t end with a miraculous Astros comeback win. Luckily, the Astros lost that game and there would indeed be a game 4. (Ben and I joked many times after that was the only time we rooted for the Stros to lose). Somehow we made our flight in time, with only the clothes on our backs, not even a toothbrush. We flew from Houston, to Salt Lake City, and then to Boston. We rolled into our hotel at about 6AM, took a nap, and went to Fenway for the the 3PM start time. We watched the Astros clinch that day sitting atop the Green Monster. Both of our first playoff games to attend. We celebrated that night amongst sad Red Sox fans at the famous Cheers, and flew back home the next morning. Ben was just as spontaneous as me, I think that's why we got along so well. You couldn't tempt him with a good time and him not take it. I will miss my friend, and my heart aches for his family, especially for Opal. I am proud to have known such kind hearted man with a wild soul, and lucky to have shared great memories with him. There's no one else like him. Until we meet again buddy.

Tyler would bring him to house during two a days for lunch. He also would show up on random Tuesday nights after a basketball game. His smile lit up every room he walked in.
