Ardell Keith Brandl, 80, of Hull, passed away peacefully on September 24, 2026. He was born on June 24, 1946, in Houston, Texas. Ardell lived a life centered around his family, his friends, and his community, and he will be remembered for his kindness, generosity, and willingness to always lend a helping hand.
Ardell grew up working on the family farm, where he learned the value of hard work and helping others. He carried those lessons with him throughout his life. Ardell also worked for Brown & Root for 31 years before retiring. He enjoyed working on small engines in the small tool repair department. He later worked in general maintenance for Hardin ISD, where he became known as a true “Jack of all trades.” There was hardly a job he couldn’t tackle, and he was always willing to help anyone who needed him.
Ardell enjoyed many things in life, but he especially loved cooking. His famous banana pancakes and homemade desserts were enjoyed by many and became part of the memories his family and friends will always cherish. For more than 30 years, Ardell brought smiles to countless children and families by dressing up as Santa Claus. He loved being outdoors and enjoyed fishing and hunting. He was a proud member of the Lions Club and loved being involved in his community. When his children were young, he coached baseball and enjoyed being there to support them.
Ardell also had a competitive side and loved good food, good company, and a little friendly competition. He was a proud member of the BBQ cookoff team, the “Gone Crazy Cookers,” where he made many wonderful memories with friends. He enjoyed watching Western movies and had a special love for animals. His beloved dogs, Harry Potter and Coco, held a special place in his heart and remained cherished companions throughout their lives.
Family was the most important part of Ardell’s life. He is survived by his loving wife, Linda Brandl, son, Darryl Keith Brandl and his wife, Patricia, daughter in law, Annette Brandl and daughter, Laura Shew and her husband, Craig. He adored his grandchildren, Jessica, Kayla, Taylor, Emma Jane, Jordan, Garrett, Kaitlyn, Autumn, Mia, and Talan, and his great-grandchildren, Hayden, Bella, William, Kynslee, Haley, Maverick, Everitt, Gia, and Charlotte. He is also survived by his sister, Linda Ferrell.
Ardell never met a stranger. He was friendly and outgoing and could strike up a conversation with just about anyone. He loved babies, enjoyed searching the grocery store for a good deal, and looked forward to meals at Los Compadres in Hardin. He was generous with his time and always willing to help others. Those who knew Ardell will remember not only his hard work, but also his big heart and the many ways he made people feel welcome.
Ardell was preceded in death by first wife, Jane Brandl; his son, Timothy Scott Brandl; stepdaughter, Erin Russell and brother, Jerry Brandl.
Visitation will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 29, 2026, at Hardin Methodist Church, followed by the funeral service at 12:00 p.m with Pastor Michael Martin conducting. A graveside service will follow at Hardin Chapel Cemetery.
Serving as pallbearers and honoring Ardell will be Jordan Brandl, Garrett Brandl, Talan Shew, Wayne Stark, Travis Riojas, and Dylan Riojas.
Ardell leaves behind a lifetime of memories that will be treasured by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him. His stories, his laughter, his generosity, and his willingness to help others will not be forgotten. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew him.
