I first met Alvin when I was directing music at Tyrell Park Baptist Church in Beaumont and he came as pastor. (My wife was on the pastor search committee that went to Sunset, LA and asked him to be our pastor). He and I served the Lord together for many years at Tyrell Park as well as leading many revivals throughout southeast Texas... Oh the stories I could tell you about those times we shared.. We were blessed by Lou, Dana and Brad.. Such a wonderful family and to know that they are all back together again brings joy to my heart.. What a wonderful reunion they had Friday !!! Just this past Sunday we were out with friends and I shared some of the experiences Alvin and I had together (not knowing that Alvin had already gone home) and we all shared a few laughs. I was also blessed a few months ago when I actually talked to Alvin on the phone. It took some searching but I finally tracked him down after 50 years.. He remembered some of our good times and enjoyed catching up again... He still blessed my heart after all these years. I look forward to seeing him again when I took take up residence in Heaven... God bless you My friend. Ernest Mills

Brother Alvin and his wife Lou were very special to us, He was our pastor at Beauxart Gardens Baptist Church, He was our neighbor and friend and was always there when we needed his wisdom. After his leaving our church, we would see him and Lou in Beaumont shopping and also at Doctor Offices. He also was a pastor at Dolen, Texas where many of our friends and relatives attended. So, we were able to visit that church and hear him preach again, and there were a funeral he preached for Ken's uncle. He was a happy man and I smile every time of think of him. I am sorry for the family he has left, but we all know where he is. Just last week, he came to my thoughts as I was doing my Christmas cards. I was sad when I saw he had passed, but happy for him too. It is my regret that I will not be able to attend his service, but he and his family will be in my thoughts and prayers.

Bro. Alvin, it's hard to keep a straight face even hearing his name. He taught my dad, when he was in school. When in middle school, he was my history teacher. I don't recall a passing day that he didn't have a new joke to share with his students. So in an effort to share with my parents what all I had learned in school that day. Everyday I came home with a new joke. My mother would get so mad, 'Do you learn anything in that class'. Yes, he taught us well. I think it was the preacher, coming out in him in his role as teacher. He had to open with a joke. He was a kind, gentle soul. There was never a time that I crossed paths with him after High School that he didn't say Hello. He always wore that smile as a calling card or had a funny face on standby. He helped to show me to work hard but to never take life too seriously. Laughter is the best medicine, it's the same in all languages as he would say. There is no doubt as to where he is. I'm just thankful that I knew such a wonderful man, who was a wonderful example of a Christian because he loved everyone.

Bro. Alvin was a special person to me and my parents. He went to school with Mom and was friends with Mom and Dad. I met him in a college class and he recognized my name. He married my best friend and also me. I bought him a poinsettia and M&Ms to take to him but he passed before I delivered them. He was always happy and when he and Lou attended our church, we enjoyed them so much. I will miss him. He was truly a man of God.
