Alton was born on January 12, 1954 to the late Travis William Triplett and W. Kathleen New in Texas City, Texas. Alton attended TC High School and Stephen F. Austin University. I just found out about AT's passing this evening. I met AT around 1974, roomed together at SFA with At and our dear friend Joe. Joe went to class, AT wasn't even enrolled and he and I had a great time. We lived together in Houston in the mid 70s with our great friends Rose and Ricky. AT and I had some great times, camping and backpacking in Arkansas, Colorado, Wyoming, Utah and Arizona. I got AT interested in golf in the early 90, my wife Martha worked at a golf course where could play for free. My Mom loved AT like one of her own, she's a hard woman but she loved her Alton. AT was everything mentioned in the article, there just wasn't anything he couldn't improve on, brilliant artist and craftsman. And Sue P., AT had the same affect on many women, he was just a good dude and gone too soon. As my wife said tonight about the picture in the obituary, AT always had that little twinkle in his eye. Love you mate...RIP...

It was so terribly sad to hear of AT's passing; that's what I used to call him -- AT. I met Alton through Bill Labuzan, and Bill was the one to call me with the news this morning. I grew up about 3 blocks from AT in LaMarque and used to stop by to visit with him at the house when I came back from college on weekends. AT and I were both interested in birds and we used to go birding together. He was a very quiet, unique person who followed a non-traditional path in life (as do I); he did things his way and I respected and admired him for that and it inspired and gave me the courage to do the same in my own life choices. I appreciated his intellect, sarcastic nature, quick wit and artistic skills. I had a bit of a crush on Alton, back in those days; he was so different from everyone else I knew and I really enjoyed being around him because I always learned something new and interesting from our conversations. RIP Alton susan perry~
