Willie Ray Schilling, a beloved father, grandfather, and cherished friend, left this world on January 25, 2025, at the age of 76 in Kingwood, Texas. Born on March 5, 1948, in Lott, Texas, Willie was known for his deep compassion, tireless dedication to family, and the warmth he brought into the lives of those around him.
Willie dedicated much of his life to working as a diesel truck mechanic, where his skill and hard work earned him the respect of his peers and gratitude from those he served. His pride, however, extended beyond his career; he was a proud Army Veteran, decorated with multiple purple hearts, a testament to his bravery and commitment to his country.
Willie found immense joy in his family. He is survived by his sons, William Larry Miller and Richard Eli Schilling and wife Patsy; his daughters, Patricia Louise Pilgreen, Meredith Denise McWilliams and her husband, John Undernehr, and Harmonee Le’Ann Schilling; his brother, John Schilling; and his sisters, Rita Earl, Helen Vanbuskirk, Katherine Baugh, and Pamela Ward. He took great joy in the laughter and love of his grandchildren: Sarah Pilgreen, Wyndee Pilgreen, Jeremy Jackson, Zachary McWilliams, Blake Welch, Tucker Schilling, and Xavier Montez as well as his ten great-grandchildren. Willie’s life was enriched by numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members, all of whom will carry his spirit forward.
His personality shone brightly as someone who was always ready to lend a helping hand. Whether it was through his role as a caretaker or simply sharing a meal, Willie was known for his caring nature and love for food, particularly his famous Devil Eggs that became a staple at church functions. His love for his church and its community reflected his generous spirit, allowing him to forge deep connections with friends and congregants alike.
Willie's life was not without its heartaches. He now joins his deceased loved ones, including his parents, Willie Schilling and Lillie Lehr Schilling; his wife, Sharon Patricia Schilling; his son, Elmer Lee Tanton and his brother Curtis Schilling. Although he leaves a void that can never be filled, the memories and legacy he created will remain etched in the hearts of all who knew him.
A memorial service honoring Willie Ray Schilling will take place on February 1, 2025, at Mount Calvary Baptist Church - Marysee in Hull, Texas with Pastor Carlton Bailey and Pastor Tim de la Houssaye officiating. The service will begin at 11:00 AM, concluding at 12:00 PM.
Willie’s life was a beautiful tapestry of love, service, and devotion. He will be profoundly missed, but his spirit will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing him. May he rest in peace, surrounded by the love he so freely gave throughout his life.
