Walter Price Henry, 76, died Monday, October 9, 2017, at Harbor Hospice in Beaumont. He was born August 31, 1941, to Walter P. Henry Sr. and Velma Matthews in Batson where he was a lifelong resident, worked for the Texas Forest Service and became a self-made businessman.
Walter was known by many in the community as a business owner. He bought and ran the Gulf station on 105 for years before building the Chevron store and later the carwash. Even though much of his time was spent running his business, he found time to devote thirty years to West Hardin CCISD as a school board member. Because he loved sports and coaching, he volunteered for many years as a Little League baseball coach. With the help of some friends, Walter helped create and coordinate the Pine Island Bayou Archery Club where he spent many weekends honing his skills and sharing his love for the sport with others. Later in life, Walter served as a member of the Guedry Cemetery committee and was an active member at Batson Prairie Baptist Church.
He is preceded in death by his parents, brothers; Lawerence Henry, Justin Henry, Orville Warren, and James Lyles, sisters; LaDonna Alcorn, Faye Ballinger, and Ada Katherine Hall.
Those left to cherish his memory is his loving wife of 57 years, Vivian Henry, daughter; Velma Kelley of Livingston, sons; Dale Henry and wife Amanda of Batson, and Jason Henry and wife Mary of Sour Lake, sister; Marcia Lynn Fregia of Batson, grandchildren; Carson Henry, Juliana Henry, Makenna Henry, Colby Henry, Maegan Henry, Aaron Thomas, Taylor Kelley, Rancen Kelley, Heather Hayes, Kaden Robinson, Dallas Robinson, Samuel Robinson, and 9 great-grandchildren.
A gathering of Mr. Henry's family and friends will be Thursday, October 12, 2017, from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at Batson Prairie Baptist Church. A service of remembrance will be held Friday, October 13, 2017, at 2:00 p.m. also at Batson Prairie Baptist Church with Reverend Lee Gruver, Reverend James Coots, Reverend Tolbert Hudspeth, and Reverend Butch Perkins.
