Sherry Lynn Mettlen, of Moss Hill, passed away on Tuesday, January 10, 2017 at her residence with her loving family by her side. She was 51. Sherry was born on July 27, 1965 in Corry, Pennsylvania, to Glenna Scadden and Bruce Stebbins. Sherry graduated from Hull-Daisetta High School in 1984 and attended North Harris Community College. She then married her high school sweetheart, Daron Mettlen in 1985.

She began working at Carol Bond Health Foods in Liberty in 1988 as a cleaning lady making $4 an hour. By 2013, she was the proud owner of the business in which she had worked for 25 years. She worked tirelessly serving her customers and often working seven days a week. She was a passionate community leader and believed in giving back to her community. Sherry was a member of the Liberty-Dayton Chamber of Commerce, a member and past president of Hardin Lions Club, a member of the Trinity River Wildlife Refuge, a driving force for the Moss Hill Cemetery fund raisers, a recipient of the Masonic community builder award, a member of the Liberty Rotary Club and Bridgehaven Children's Advocacy of Liberty.

Sherry had a huge heart when it came to her family which she lovingly gave of herself to all her family. Her special talent was her love for her nieces and nephews. There was no problem or challenge that was ever too big or too small for her to tackle. Sherry was always willing to help any family in the community who was in need. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

A service of remembrance will be held on Friday, January 13, 2017 at 11:00 A.M. at Mount Calvary Baptist Church - Marysee of Moss Hill, with Pastor Carlton Bailey and Reverend John French officiating. The family will be receiving friends also on Friday, January 13, 2017 from 10:00 A.M. until time of service at the church.

Honorary pallbearers are the Mount Calvary Baptist Church-Marysee Youth Department who she loved and cherished very much.

Sherry was preceded in death by her father Bruce Stebbins, grandparents, Guy and Helen Stebbins, and Carmen and Gloria Scadden. Foster son, Harvey Douglas, whom Sherry met on Dec. 13, 2013 when he came into her shop with his grandfather, whom she got to know and came to love him very much. Little did she know that he would become her and Daron's foster son by Sept. 2015, nephews Jared Wheeler and Codie Mettlen, and her father-in-law John Mettlen.

Sherry is survived by her husband Daron Mettlen of Moss Hill; mother Glenna Scadden of Moss Hill; sisters, Rhonda Johnson and husband Ricky of Hull, Julie Dutton and husband Glenn of Old River; and brother Roger Johnson and wife Tammy of San Antonio. Mother-in-law, Linda Mettlen of Moss Hill; special aunt Joanna Dahlbeck of Lakeview, NY. Nieces, Katrina Powell and husband Tommy of Dayton, Erika Whitworth and husband Daniel of Moss Hill, Brandi Gilfillan and husband Henke of Raywood, and Erynne Johnson of Daisetta. Nephews, Brandin Johnson of Daisetta, Tyler Johnson of Hardin, Kurtis Johnson of Floresville, TX, Caleb Mettlen of Seabrook, and Cory Mettlen of Jasper. Great-nieces and nephews Sadie Gilfillan and Dana Whitworth, Zackery Powell, Jared Wheeler Whitworth, James and Marcus Whitworth and her extended family Brent Wolfe and Beaux Langston. Sisters-in-law, Rita Wheeler and husband Albert of Moss Hill; Nita Pestlen and husband Patrick of Dayton, and brother-in-law, Steven Mettlen and wife Deedra of Jasper.
