Norman M. McAdams, 75, passed away at his home in Hardin, TX, Tuesday, May 2, 2017, peacefully with his family by his side.
Norman was born January 18, 1942, in Saratoga, TX, to George W. and Quida McAdams. Norman quit school to enlist in the navy at 17 years old in 1959. He served in company 59-212. He came home in 1963 and married his high school sweetheart Shari Hunter on June 1, 1963, at West End Baptist Church in Saratoga. In July of 1963, he enlisted in the Army and retired in 1980. During this time he served in Korea, Ansbach Germany, Fort Hood Copperas Cove, TX, Fort Sill Lawton Oklahoma, Crailsheim Germany and back to Fort Sill where he retired as an E7 Sargent 1st Class. During his military service, he was aboard a ship participating in the Cuba Missile Crisis. During a drought in Germany, his platoon helped local German farmers haul hay and water to help keep alive their planted fields and livestock. His platoon was honored for their assistance. He was honored with numerous awards, medals, and certificates during his service. To name a few; B Battery 1/31 Artillery in Korea, Pershing Missile Branch, Expert Army Weapons qualification for rifles, Good conduct medal, Army Commendation medal, Suggestion award adopted by the 72nd Field Artillery Group for adding castors on main missile assemblage containers saving time and money for deployment. He loved flying single engine planes. He earned his pilot license in Fort Sill in November 1973. He loved country music and at one time managed a country music band. He loved spending time with his family and friends. He especially loved spending time with his brother Paul McAdams where they shared some of the same interests of service to their country and flying planes.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Shari McAdams of Hardin, his daughter Yevonne Farrar of Hardin, his son Dennis McAdams of Hardin, grandsons B.J. Chadwick and Justin Stark of Hardin, great grandchildren John Chadwick III and Jewel Stark, sisters, Kathy Scott, Ruth Scott, Sue Yarber, Elaine Lowe, Marguerite Storey, and Virginia Fontenot, and brother, James McAdams
He was preceded in death by his parents George and Quida McAdams of Saratoga, his brothers Johnny McAdams of Batson, Paul McAdams of Saratoga and his sister Rose Mary Storey of Saratoga.
