Nelda dedicated a significant portion of her life to her career as an office manager at various companies, where her meticulousness and dedication were notable. A proud single mother for many years, she exemplified resilience and independence, showing her children, the power of perseverance and love.

A woman of deep faith, Nelda was a devoted member of Fletcher Emmanuel Church of Lumberton for over 40 years, embodying the spirit of service to God. She found joy and fulfillment not only in her faith but also in the simple pleasures of life—whether it be playing bingo at various places or reveling in the companionship of her beloved Yorkie, Roxy. Her nurturing spirit extended to her mother, whom she affectionately called "Memaw," demonstrating a profound love that transcended generations. Her grandchildren and nephew Camdon were the world to her, each of whom held a special place in her heart and brought her immeasurable happiness. Nelda loved them dearly, her laughter echoing warmly in their lives, a testament to a bond that remains unbreakable even in her absence.

Nelda is preceded in death by her devoted parents, Jack Earl Berry, and Bernice Nelwyn Coats, both of whom she held close to her heart.

She is survived by her sons, Jonathan Richard Ray, and wife Gillane, and William "Bill" Joseph Stewart and wife Mara; grandchildren, Austin Stewart, Elizabeth Stewart, Sarah Stewart, Gavin Ray, Madilynn Ray, Brielle Ray, Layla Ray and Charlotte Ray; sister, Jan Ellen Berry; niece, Michelle, and husband Ken Dollinger, and son Camdon.

With a personality that mirrored her simple yet profound approach to life, Nelda's laughter will forever resonate in the hearts of those she touched. Her ability to find joy in every circumstance exemplified the beauty of a life well lived, and as she continues her journey among the stars, she leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and cherished memories. Nelda Berry Ray will be sorely missed, forever an irreplaceable gem in the tapestry of her family and friends.
