Mary Beth Scroggins, a beacon of strength and love, passed away on October 3, 2024, in Cleveland, Texas, at the age of 80. Born on October 29, 1943, Beth's life was a rich tapestry woven with threads of pioneering spirit, unwavering dedication, and boundless affection.
In the late 1960s, Beth made a mark in the construction industry as the first woman in Texas to break through barriers that had long excluded women from this tough domain. From her humble beginnings as a painter, she tirelessly worked her way up the ranks to become a superintendent, a testament to her hard work and tenacity. She exemplified the essence of perseverance—her accomplishments are not only etched in the walls she painted but also in the hearts of those who drew inspiration from her journey. Beth was much more than a worker; she was the heartbeat of her family, a beloved teacher, and a guiding light for many who followed in her footsteps.
Beth reveled in the joy of familial traditions, particularly around Halloween and Christmas, which were celebrated with a unique and festive flair. She became the matriarch whose baking—cookies, pies, fudge, and candy—filled homes with warmth and laughter. These recipes were not mere ingredients; they were love, passed down through generations, a legacy that she gifted to her children and grandchildren. In her kitchen, she nurtured not just bodies but also souls, wrapping each creation in the affection that defined her very essence.
Her personality was a sublime blend of strength and tenderness. A heart of gold, she embodied tough love when it was most needed. Her kindness knew no bounds; the door to her home was always ajar to those in need. She was not just a grandmother; she was a mother to all her grandchildren, enveloping them in the warmth of her unwavering support and love. Throughout the community, her presence was felt like a comforting embrace, a constant reminder of the power of generosity and kindness. The world truly revolved around her, and her absence leaves an indescribable void.
Among her proudest accomplishments was her victorious battle against breast cancer in 2017, reflecting her resilience and indomitable spirit. Those who knew her fondly referred to her as HBIC—a title born of respect and camaraderie, representing her fierce nature and tenacity.
Beth leaves behind a legacy of love, hard work, and an indelible spirit that will forever resonate in the hearts of her family and community. Though she has departed from this world, her unwavering influence, and the lessons she imparted will continue to guide and inspire all who were touched by her extraordinary life.
