Laura Naomie Hughes, known for her sharp wit and candid demeanor, passed away on August 6, 2024, in Livingston, Texas. She was born on December 28, 1946, in Abbeville, Louisiana, to her loving parents Barney Ottis Smalley and Patsy Ruth Jordan.

Laura's life was filled with cherished memories of dancing with her husband every weekend and enjoying trail rides on their wagon. She was a dedicated presence at every ball game, ensuring she never missed a moment of excitement. Her vibrant personality shone through in her humor and her unapologetic honesty that endeared her to all who knew her.

Beyond her professional accomplishments as a bookkeeper, Laura found true joy in spending time with her family and indulging in hobbies that brought her immense happiness. She held a special place in her heart for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, considering them her greatest passion. Her beloved fur baby Sissy and the gentle flutter of hummingbirds also held a dear place in Laura's heart. She found delight in dancing, engaging in heartfelt conversations with her sister and friends, pampering herself with manicures and pedicures, and eagerly anticipated playing Pokeno with friends each month. Trade days were another favorite pastime where she loved to explore and find hidden gems. 

She reveled in the festive spirit of Christmas, often hosting family gatherings filled with laughter and love. In quieter moments, Laura could be found engrossed in episodes of "Wheel of Fortune," "Big Brother," and the mysteries unraveling on the ID channel. She had a penchant for watching spine-chilling movies that kept her entertained.

In the wake of Laura's passing, she is survived by her daughter, Melissa Hughes, son, Scotty Hughes and wife Amy,; grandchildren, Skylar Hodgeson and husband Chandler, Shelby Fly, Cassidy Fly, Marly Melancon and husband Payson, Kaycee Cotten and husband Dillon, Jay Hughes and wife Olivia, Payton Leger and husband Joe, Reagan Hughes, Reed Hughes; great-grandchildren, Blakely Melancon, Bodie Melancon, Monroe Cotten, Konnar Cotten, River Leger, Baylor Hughes; sister, Pat Scott; along with numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She is predeceased by her husband, Walter Harold Hughes; son, Chris Hughes; parents, Barney Ottis Smalley, and Patsy Ruth Jordan.

Serving the family as pallbearers are Gene Dagle, Glenn Dagle, Jay Hughes, Harold Jordan, Bob Guedry, and Nathan Nelson.

Services to honor Laura's life will be held at the First Assembly of God in Saratoga, Texas. A visitation will take place on Thursday, August 8, 2024, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM. The Funeral Service will be held on Friday, August 9, 2024, at 2:00 PM officiated by Pastor Dean Love. Interment to follow at Felps Cemetery in Thicket, Texas.

Laura Naomie Hughes will be deeply missed but will forever remain alive in the hearts of all those who had the privilege of knowing her. Her legacy of love, laughter and genuine connections will continue to inspire all who were touched by her presence.
