Glory Don Lacewell Cooper, a beloved member of her community and a shining to those who knew her, passed away on Sunday, November 17, 2024, in Jacksonville, Texas, at the age of 89. Born on March 18, 1935, in Houston, Texas, Glory radiated warmth and kindness throughout her life, leaving an indelible mark on the hearts of all who had the honor of encountering her.
For two decades, Glory dedicated herself to the medical field as an assistant, where her gentle spirit and unwavering compassion made a significant impact on the lives of countless patients. However, her most profound legacy is found in the love she showered upon her family. A devoted caregiver, she lovingly tended to her paralyzed husband for 23 long years before he passed, embodying the very definition of selflessness and devotion.
Glory was known for her sweet, loving nature, and she possessed an extraordinary ability to make anyone feel welcome. She never met a stranger; in fact, she embraced everyone as an old friend, with open arms ready to offer a big hug. Her laughter danced through the air like music, her spirit bringing joy and light to any gathering.
In recent years, Glory found solace and community in attending Kelty Baptist Church, where her faith flourished. She cherished every moment spent with family, never missing a game day, and immersing herself in the joy of card games like 42, train, and dominoes, which were her favorites. The simple pleasures of life never escaped her, and her zest for family gatherings brought warmth and love to those around her.
Glory is preceded in death by her parents, Edwin Jewel Lacewell, and Vida Jane Fatheree; husband, Thomas Leslie Cooper; sons, Jim Bradley, Keith Wayne Bradley; brother, George Lacewell; granddaughter, Debra Anne Harrell. She is survived by her son, Mike Cooper; daughters, Pam Porter, and Linda Walker; numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, November 23, 2024, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, followed by a funeral service that will begin at 11:00 AM officiated by Pastor Tony Hines, at Hardin Baptist Church, Hardin, Texas. Interment to follow at Hardin Chapel Cemetery.
Honoring Glory as pallbearers are Clint Pilgrim, Ronald Bradley, Ralph Clark, Sammy Maham, Mike Cooper, and Danny Coots. Honorary pallbearer is James Coots.
As we reflect on the life of Glory Don Lacewell Cooper, we remember a woman who wore her heart on her sleeve, whose laughter could be heard ringing through the halls, and who embraced every chance to connect with others. In her passing, we are left with a profound sense of loss, yet the memories she created will forever illuminate our lives.
