George David Martin Jr, “Big George”, 74, of Liberty, Texas passed away on Tuesday, February 13, 2024, at his residence. He was born in Silsbee, Texas on September 29, 1949, to the late George David Martin Sr. and Mary Eason.
Family always held a special place in George’s heart. His most pride and joy were his beautiful daughter and granddaughter. He cherished every moment with his loved ones, creating cherished memories that will forever be treasured. George embraced life fully and found joy in playing music. Music was the way to his heart it was his everything. You could find “Big George” strumming on his electric guitar or sitting playing the piano. He toured with a gospel group, The Right Connection and Country Heritage. Outside of his music, George had a love for nature, helping around the farm and animals. He could often be found making arrowheads, walking sticks and dream catchers. George was devoted to his community of Rye for over 30 years where he helped with many community events as an auctioneer. He had an affectious personality and loved to make people laugh. George will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
He is preceded in death by his father.
He is survived by his mother, Mary Hinson of Shreveport, Louisiana; daughters, Jessica Blair and husband Joe of Rye, Texas and Stratford Caughman and husband Jason of Liberty, Texas; brother, Carl Martin of Shreveport, Louisiana; stepbrother, Butch Hinson of Rusk, Texas; stepsister, Sue McGinnis of Houston, Texas; grandchildren, Andi Caughman, Devon Rodgers, Holden Blair, and Brock Caughman; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Serving the family as pallbearers are Jason Caughman, Devon Rodgers, Josh Fleming, Ron Hendricks, Ben Ellison, and Richard Fleming.
A visitation will be held on Monday, February 19, 2024, from 11:00 am – 12:00 pm at Faith and Family Funeral Services, Batson, Texas. Funeral Services will begin at 12:00 pm on Monday, February 19, 2024, officiated by Brother Dean Krell at Faith and Family Funeral Services, Batson, Texas. Interment to follow at Sutton Cemetery, Honey Island, Texas.
