Ernesta Torres-Jones

Ernesta Torres-Jones, fondly known to all as Ms. Vanessa, left this world on March 3, 2025, at the age of 68. Born on September 15, 1956, she was a spunky German woman whose infectious smile and laugh brightened the lives of everyone who had the privilege to know her. With a spirit that was always ready for adventure, Ernesta was energetic, outgoing, and a true embodiment of joy.

A woman of diverse passions, Ernesta found great pleasure in gardening, often nurturing her beloved roses in her garden. She delighted in shopping, fishing, and was particularly fond of listening to Cajun music. Above all, Ernesta loved spending time with her friends and family, relishing each moment she shared with those who meant the most to her. She had an immense love for animals, her fur babies Sasha and Nana often by her side, capturing her heart with their loyalty and love.

Ernesta’s family was her pride and joy. She is survived by her life partner of 28 years, Barry Jones, who stood by her side through many delightful adventures. Her daughter, Margarita DeLeon, brought her countless moments of happiness as did her stepchildren, Steven Jones, Chasity Reynolds, and Amber Hughes, who were part of the fabric of her vibrant family. The joy of her grandchildren—Edward Stanford, Ash Stanford, and Brittney Perez—filled her heart with an abundance of love and laughter, creating a legacy of memories that will last in the hearts of all who loved her. Ernesta was also cherished by numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins, each sharing their unique bond with her.

She was preceded in death by her loving parents, Ernest Miller and Anna Hood, along with her brother, Howard Hood, and sisters, Rebecca Sanchez and Rowina Torres. They welcomed her into their arms, and together they will shine down upon us.

Ernesta's vibrant spirit touched the lives of all who crossed her path, leaving a lasting impression filled with love, laughter, and cherished memories. She will be deeply missed but fondly remembered in the hearts of those she held dear.
