Funeral services for Dessie May Wilson, 97, Liberty formerly of Athens, were held at 2:00 P M Thursday, May 3, 2012 at Carroll-Lehr Funeral Chapel with Pastor Larry Tate officiating.Interment followed at New York cemetery in Athens. Dessie died April 29, 2012 in Batson.
She was born February 27, 1915 in Henderson County to the late John Thomas and Allie Pearl Mize Nalls. Dessie was a resident of Liberty from 1955 to 1980 then retiring as a sales associate for home health care and moving to Athens until last year when she moved to Pasadena to be closer to her family and be able to love on her 6 generations of children. She was a very active member of First Church of God until her failing health a year ago.
She was preceded in death by husband Wilmer Wilson, sons Bobby Joe Wilson, Michael Dan Wilson, daughters, Allie Ruth Lamberth and Mary Elizabeth Wilson.
Survivors include daughters, Norma Baylor-Scalamogna, Pasadena, Karen Chitwood, Athens, sons, Billy Ray Wilson and wife Sue, Porter, John Wayne Wilson and wife Sybil, Liberty, 27 grandchildren, 55 great grandchildren, 28 great- great grandchildren, one great –great- great- grandson.
Pallbearers are Kenneth Wilson, Kevin Wilson, Michael Wilson, John Crocker, Steve Baylor, Scott Baylor, David Baylor, Justin Wakefield.
Honorary pallbearers are George DeFore, Marlin Germany, John Fulton, Jim Fulton, Douglas Logan.
Family will receive friends 6-8 P M Wednesday at the funeral home.
