Carolyn Jordan Soileau, 74, of Conroe, passed away peacefully at CURA Health Services – Parkgate Home on Sunday, July 8, 2018, after a courageous, year-long battle with cancer. Carolyn was born at home on December 28, 1943, in Batson, Texas, the fifth of eight children. She grew up in Batson and graduated in 1962 from West Hardin County Senior High School. She met Douglas Leon Sullivan and they were married in August of 1962. Over the next 24 years, they made a home in Daisetta, Texas, raised two boys and were active members of local churches and the community. In 1985/86 she attended Lee College in Baytown, Texas and became a licensed cosmetologist. She married her second husband, Calvin J. Soileau in 1991. She and Calvin lived in Beaumont, Texas for 16 years until his passing in September of 2007 after which she moved to Montgomery, Texas to be near her children and grandchildren in early 2008.
She was a loving homemaker, always there to see her sons off to school and always there when they came home to give them a hug and a snack. She was a skilled seamstress and baker, a Sunday school teacher and a gardener. She loved to travel, especially with her sisters. She believed her purpose in life was to serve others and was happiest when she had someone to care for. Her life revolved around her family and close friends, some of which were lifetime relationships, some more recent through church and bible study, but all were very dear to her.
Carolyn is preceded in death by her parents, Murrie Jordan and Dicie Birge, her brother Carl Jordan, sister Vada Goulas, and her daughter Phyllis Murphy.
She is survived by her children; Wayde Sullivan and wife Sherry of Montgomery, Texas, Michael Sullivan and wife DaLonna of Austin, Texas, Carl Soileau and wife Patty of Whitehouse, Texas, Judy Ballew of Beaumont, Texas and Jan Lopez of Beaumont, Texas, 10 grandchildren; Leslie Holt, Cole Sullivan, Kase Sullivan, Riley Radford, Kyle Sullivan, Reid Sullivan, Angie Kowalski, Shawn Soileau, Joseph Brady, and Brittany Ballew; 10 great-grandchildren; Blake Olivia Holt, Callie Coleman, Cammie Coleman, Cate Coleman, Kendall Soileau, Conner Soileau, Olivia Syphrett, Dub Syphrett, Rose Brady, and Mason Brady, brothers; Robert Jordan of Batson, Texas, Jerry Jordan and wife Becky of Batson, Texas, sisters; Sandra Kerr of Winston-Salem, North Carolina, Anita (Cooter) Kunkle and husband Bert of Houston, Texas, and Jennifer Roussel of Houston, Texas.
Her sons wish to thank the caregivers at CURA Health Services – Parkgate Home for treating Carolyn as though she was their own family and Seasons Hospice & Palliative Care for all they did to make her comfortable in the final few days. A special thank you to the Oncologist, Dr. Ajay Mitter who went above and beyond his appointed role among those tasked with her care over the last year. Dr. Mitter vowed to care for her as though she was his own mother and did just that making sure she was treated with the best of care by everyone involved, often extending his rounds late into the evenings and early morning hours just to be sure he could see how she was doing each time she was in the hospital.
