75 of Daisetta, Texas died on Wednesday July 20, 2016 at U.T.M.B. Hospital in Galveston.
A service of remembrance will be held on Saturday July 23, 2016 at 10:00 A.M. at First Baptist Church of Daisetta, with Reverend Lee Gruver and Reverend Shawn Vickers officiating. Interment will follow at Oakdale Cemetery.
Serving as pallbearers are Lynn Fregia, Randy Fregia, Fred Marberry, John Slack, Burke Dagle, and Eric Thaxton. Honorary pallbearers are her grandchildren.
There will be a gathering of family and friends on Friday July 22, 2016 from 5:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. at First Baptist Church of Daisetta.
She was preceded in death by her parents, V.I. Stengler and Commeler Fregia. Brother, Ira Jack Stengler. Survivors include daughters, Denise May of Daisetta, and Deborah Hajovsky of San Angelo, TX; and sister, Thora Hightower of Coldspring TX.
Grandchildren are James May Jr, Marcus May, Aaron Hajovsky and wife Casey, Emily Hajovsky, and Valentin Hajovsky, and great grandson, Kaden Hajovsky, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
A native of Cleveland, TX, she had lived in Daisetta, most of her life and was a retired High School Teacher with 37 years from Hull-Daisetta I.S.D. retiring in 2000. She also served as secretary at First Baptist Church of Daisetta, for many years where she also attended. Her hobbies included reading, grandchildren, and church work.
She graduated from Hull-Daisetta High School in 1959 as valedictorian of her class. She graduated from Sam Houston State University, Huntsville, in 1963 with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree with a teaching certificate. Additional graduate studies Stephen F. Austin University, Nacogdoches, TX, Lee College of Baytown, TX. Taught at Anahuac High School for 1 year.
Her membership and awards include; Texas Association of Retired Teachers, Texas State Teachers Association life member, Delta Zeta Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma Teacher Society, Alpha Delta Kappa Teacher Sorority, Who's Who Among American High School Teachers, 2003. Citizen of the Year Mayhaw Festival, University of Texas Excellence Award for High School Teachers, Loyal Bobcat Award, FFA Honorary Chapter Farmer Award, FFA VIP Award. Charter Member and later Sponsor of Hull-Daisetta High School National Beta Honor Society and Coordinator for halftime Homecoming Activities for Hull-Daisetta High School for 30 years.
