Betty Lou Hart Watkins, 94, left this world peacefully on December 9, 2023. She was born August 28, 1929, in Batson, Texas and was the oldest of 8 children.
Betty spent many years as a successful real estate broker. She was named realtor of the year several times and served as president of the Alice Board of Realtors. However, her greatest achievement and the one that will be her legacy, was her faith in God and her dedication to serving him. She was able to continue her service after she moved to Magnolia Place through her bible classes, singing with her fellow residents, and her prayers for and with them. She will be missed by so many and will not be forgotten.
She is preceded in death by parents; Jude and Johnnie Lea Hart; husband, Harold Watkins; son-in-law, Buddy Strait; grandson, Walker Watkins Strait; brothers, Lonnie Hart, Jeff Hart, and Curtis Hart; and sister Connie Hart Bennett.
Betty is survived by her daughters, Denise Strait and Suzette Jeanes and husband Micky; 4 grandchildren, Kara Strait Silva and husband John, Trey Strait and wife Ashley, Lana Williams, and Ashley Poland and husband Keith; great grandchildren; Kailey Garcia, Niessa Silva, Wesley Strait McEntyre, Kolbie Poland, Avery Silva, John A. Silva, Leah Williams, Kolson Poland, John B. “Buddy” Strait IV, Berton Strait, Ava Lowe, Kyle Watkins Strait; one great great grandchild, Morgan Allen Reyes; brothers, Dwain Hart and Butch Hart; and sister, Annie Lorice Hudspeth. Betty leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews that were very precious to her and were a huge part of her life and special friends, Ann Hunter, Kay Brown, and Rachel Wilson.
Serving the family as pallbearers are Trey Strait, Keith Poland, John Silva, Butch Hart, Butch Wade Hart, Tommy Bennett and Jeff Hart. Honorary pallbearers are Dwain Hart, Scotty Hart, Dennis Hart, Kevin Hart and Ernest Lee Bennett.
Visitation will be held from 10:30 am to 11:00 am Saturday, December 16, 2023, at Faith and Family Funeral Services in Batson, Texas. Celebration of Life will begin at 11:00 am Saturday, December 16, 2023, at Faith and Family Funeral Services in Batson, Texas with Pastor Tolbert, and Pastor Gruver officiating. Burial will follow at Guedry Cemetery in Batson, Texas.
Her family wants to acknowledge their deep appreciation to the staff of Magnolia Place for the care and kindness she received for the past 5 years, and more recently, the staff of Geneva Hospice Care.
